Drum Recording Philosophy with Benny Greb and Ronan Chris Murphy
This month, Benny Greb who is one of the best drummers and creative thinkers of the modern age is on the cover of Modern Drummer. I recorded with him a couple weeks ago at Prosdocimi Recording in North Italy. After the session I set up cameras to do a short video about the gear we used, but it turned into an in depth discussion about drum recording philosophy from a technical and creative perspective. One of the most interesting videos I have ever made.
If you like this you should definitely pick up has awesome new DVD, The art and science of groove and check him out in the new issue of Modern Drummer

Great one Ronan!
Great video. How much cotton is he putting inside the floor tom?I hate the when they ring like that.Maybe stick a hunk of gym sock in there?
Very informative video! I liked the tip about putting the pieces of deadening inside the floor tom. Your videos rock!
DEAR GOD RONAN – I did not know you play drums.
It is clear that you had a blast making that record. Great video.
I can’t really play drums. I just good around sometimes.
Thank you Ronan that was a super video. I am a pro drummer for 42 years now and have the chops but now need to improve my drum recording tech. I have been in some of your classes at the taxi convention. Someday it would be super to have enough money to attend a boot camp. I would learn so much.
