Steven Slate Virtual Tape Machine Party at NRG Studios

Last night I was invited to the release party for Slate Digital’s new Virtual Tape Machine plug-ins.  It was a great time with lots of good food and drink. I did not get a chance to hear the plug in so I cannot report on that, but I thought my fellow audio geeks would enjoy a few pics of the insanely beautiful NRG studios in North Hollywood. New Instuctors and 8 New Recording Classes

There are some big changes happening with Recording Boot Camp. Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.

One of the main reasons for our recent relocation to Santa Monica was to facilitate a significant expansion in the range of courses we can offer at Recording Boot Camp. We have expanded the teaching facilities, number of classes and range of instructors. In addition to the main 6-day Recording Boot Camp that we have been doing since 2004, we are now offering new 1-day and evening classes, ranging from basic courses for absolute beginners to advanced courses focused on specific topics. The new courses will cover everything from intros to Home Recording and DIY acoustic treatment to advanced audio editing, and technical spec for film and video game music.

We have already introduced 8 new courses and will be scheduling them over the next month (we have two of the new courses on the schedule already). Our list of instructors is growing, and we have already lined up some fantastic talent from the worlds of album, video game and film music:

Ronan Chris Murphy (King Crimson, Terry Bozzio, Steve Morse, Nels Cline, Tay Zonday, Tony Levin, Jamie Walters, Ulver)

Dave Lawrence (The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Express, Project X, Avatar – the extended re-releases, Mass Effect 3, Red Orchestra 2, Assassin’s Creed Revelations)

John Rodd (The Lincoln Lawyer, World of Warcraft, The Matrix (trilogy), Star Wars Kinect, Mass Effect 3, Pirates of the Caribbean)

Thomas Hornig (producer, mixer, artist and Cubase/Nuendo/Audio Restoration expert and computer programming)

Check out more detailed bios.

To see the full list of our new courses visit RecordingBootCamp.com and click on the courses tab.

Recording Boot Camp courses are not directly affiliated with any product companies. Even classes focused on specific software (such as Pro Tools or Cubase training) are not affiliated with the manufacturers, allowing us to provide the best possible unbiased training and advice without any kind of sales agenda.

Thanks!

Audio Recording Boot Camp Book

A few weeks ago we launched our “Audio Recording Boot Camp™” series of products. These include a book (available as paperback, PDF, Nook, Kindle) and several videos that are posted on Youtube.

The eBook is available for a little as 99¢ and 95% of our net proceeds from the book and videos will be donated to the recording programs at Phoenix House, a program that uses music recording as a tool to help teens recovering from drug addiction.

New pic of the Recording Boot Camp Control Room

More photos are on the way, but lots of people have been asking for photos of the new facility. We finally have the place together enough to start showing off some pics. I am currently working on an album in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but will try to put together a whole studio tour when I get back to LA. -Ronan

Second Recording Boot Camp of 2012 and Studio Update

We are still sorting out some cosmetic things, but the new studio is mostly done and already fully operational. We have done one boot camp and worked on a few records and are loving the new place. Getting ready to take some good photos, but until now I took a shot of the my buddy Peter Montessi from A Designs at the studio and it gives you a pretty good idea of the place.

We still have some space available for our second Recording Boot camp in the new place. It runs February 20-25. Get in touch if you think you would like to attend.

I also recently put up my 37th video over at recording show. I shot this one while working in Kuala Lumpur last month

First Boot Camp of 2012 and studio build update

Next Boot Camps

The first Boot Camp at the new location will be December 5-10, 2011. We have only one spot left in that session. Following that, the first Boot Camp of the new year will be February 20-25. We were planning it the week before, but realized that running off to hang out in the studio for a week over Valentines day might get some folks in trouble, we moved it back a week.

New Studio Progress

in progress 2We are juggling a million thing to get the new place up and running (while still doing production session in the US and Europe) and its coming together nicely.

I am experimenting with new layout that is sort of half the Daniel Lanois style of working (control room and live room are just one big space), but ours is going to be two offset connected rooms with a large opening between them (thanks to knocking out a wall). This will hopefully give it a lot of the advantage of the single work space (open feeling, easy communication) but still be able to close it off a big with heavy curtains if we need a bit of isolation. There is also a vocal booth off the control room if we need a lot of isolation. This pic is from about two weeks ago so it looking a lot better now. New facility offers an additional teaching lab.

HRBC is moving to the Beach

Big news at Recording Boot Camp!

We are moving and expanding.

thenewhoodThe most exciting part of the move is our new location in Santa Monica, just blocks from the beach. If you walk just over half a mile west of the new location your toes will be in the sand just south of the Santa Monica Pier and just north of the world famous Venice boardwalk. (check out this photo I took just west of the new studio). The new location, which will have both a main studio as well as a secondary teaching lab, is currently being renovated. Pics of that soon.

Students in all our Boot Camps will be able hit the beach before class and head out to great restaurants, theaters and clubs in the evening (there is even an amusement park on the nearby Pier). The first Boot Camp where students will get to take advantage of the new location will be December 5-10, 2011. We still have some spaces left for that session.

Expanded range of classes and courses.

We will be giving you updates as they develop over the next few months, but the new location is going to allow us to expand and offer a broader range of classes for students of all levels. Keep an eye out for everything from expanded Boot Camps, beginner level software training, to advanced music business seminars.

This is a really exciting time for us. Please share this with anyone you think might be interested in what we are doing.

Thanks,
Ronan

A students view of Home Recording Boot Camp

I recently returned from teaching a recording boot camp in Italy at Abnegat studio in Vicenza Italy. It was a great week hanging out with a really cool group of folks eating good food, sharing stories, oh yeah and learning about recording. One of the students from the UK has been blogging about his experience on his web site.  I always think a student could tell you much more about the Boot Camp experience than I could, so check out his blog to see Boot Camp from a student perspective (his site also has tons of other info for aspiring musicians
